Getting Ready to Leave Mt Hagen
During our week in Mt Hagen, Ryan had 2 days of flight checks (which he passed!) and between us we bought all of our groceries for the next 3+ months, including dog food for Koda.
Shiv spent a morning at the Mt Hagen market, the largest veg market in PNG where I found beetroot for the first time! All the veg had to be washed (in bleach) and prepped to travel in eskis/cool boxes so it would survive the journey to our home in Telefomin.

Do you know what this vegetable is?
I asked the ladies selling it at the market but they didn’t know its name, just that it’s like a Zucchini/Courgette, although the flesh felt soft, not firm, like a ripe plum.
I’d love to know, if you can shed some light.
Whilst waiting to board, Koda had to accompany Shiv to the ladies’ room, where he encountered a handsome puppy in the mirror!
One of several trolleys loaded with our cargo and vegetables in eskis/cool boxes.
The last eskis/cool boxes to be loaded which contained frozen meat, butter, cheese and some frozen baked goods hand-made by the kids of some MAF friends in Goroka!
As our suitcases, eskis and other cargo were so many different shapes and sizes, plus we were taking 2 passengers and the repaired MAF Telefomin lawnmower, Ryan needed to give the Traffic Officers a hand to fit everything inside and still give us some space to get Koda into his travel crate just before we took off.
This is Issac, the Mt Hagen Base Manager. He was working hard to load our aircraft and direct his team to meet incoming aircraft at the same time.
